Two Post-Precipitate Phenomena

Two simple and straightforward pieces for piano, both inspired by weather.

 

i.

Petrichor: the earthy scent produced from rainwater falling on dry soil. The word is constructed using the Greek petra, meaning stone, and the word ichor, which refers to the blood of the gods of Greek Mythology.

 

Coined and created first by Bear and Thomas, 1964

 

ii.

Sun Dog: an atmospheric phenomenon that consists of a pair of bright spots on either side of the sun. Created by the light's reflection off ice crystals, they are also known as mock suns, phantom suns, or parhelia.
