P-E-A-C-E in motion (2020)

pipe organ - 8 min

P-E-A-C-E in motion was commissioned by the congregation of Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven, MI for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the move to their new building. It is dedicated to them and the Pastor Travis Wilson who instilled such support and encouragement of new organ music.

The pitch content is derived from the spelling of PEACE (where "P" is represented by the note B) and, contrary to the expectation of the listener based on the title, begins with full organ and large, complex harmonies. This slowly abates, however, introducing the PEACE motive not only through pitch, but also through silence.
